Writing Bio:
Aadip Desai, President of the Northwest Screenwriters Guild since 2007, is an American citizen by birth. He's been staring at blank pages since 2001. A freelance writer and music supervisor based in Seattle, WA, as a teenager, Aadip learned of Joseph Campbell and wrote a heroic one-act play about the New York Philharmonic, but got a “B” because he used the word b*tch. As a college intern at Sony Music under Randy “The Emperor” Jackson, he went on to other prominent writing assignments, like transcribing album lyrics for the Good Morning America teleprompter.
In 2000, while working at Muzak, trying to figure out what a cinnamon roll sounds like, he attempted his first screenplay. Fate intervened by losing his 20-page treatment, thus saving the universe from another passive protagonist. Undeterred, he pressed on, learning as much as he could from the holy trinity -Field, McKee, and Vogler. In 2004, while ensuring that every Starbucks in the world received its background music, he finished a spec of Law and Order on his lunch break. It died with Jerry Orbach, but was a semi-finalist in the American Accolades TV Competition.
After writing and music supervising a music video, he wrote another music video, wrote a short for hire, and finished another short, which placed in the top 20% of the American Gem Short Competition and made it to the 2nd round of Slamdance. During all this time he worked on Jazz After Hours (PRI/NPR) and record over 20 live recordings. Recently, Aadip co-wrote a comedy feature called Happy Accident and created soundtracks for two plays, six extreme sports videos, and a feature film.
As President of the NWSG, Aadip has interviewed and organized workshops with top script consultants, working screenwriters, executives at Misher, Village Roadshow, Donners’, Mosaic, and Motion Theory, and managers.
He went to the Univ. of Puget Sound (it’s a real school) and studied supply and demand while learning how to double-tongue (on a trumpet, you sicko). He’s augmented his liberal arts experience with numerous screenwriting workshops and conferences.
His wife and dog tolerate him.
His greatest crowning achievement was being called "too creative" by a middle manager at Microsoft.
Porcupine Productions provides copywriting and editing services for hire, on spec, etc.
